La Maison d'Or
One Pearl Bank | New Condo | 700 sqft
Rooted in wabi-sabi but inspired by the clean-cut character of modern interiors, this home is a reflection of its owner's way of living. Our client enjoys a clutter-free space that empowers them to think clearly under high-stress conditions.
The unusual layout where the entrance starts of narrow, while the living room ends up wider due to the circular shape of the building, may be seen as a challenge to some in terms of fully utilising the space. However, we played to the strengths of this layout by extending the feature wall to its full length, in order to accentuate the feeling of expansion and breathability as the user traverses in further.

While using modern elements like clean lines and materials that provide a refined and tactile experience, we sought to depth in the design by anchoring its roots in the wabi-sabi philosophy; one which our client lives by.
This was achieved by curating items that act as symbols of this philosophy. The stucco texture applied on walls by hand is seen in the living room's open display niche as well as above the headboard in the bedroom. It signifies the beauty of imperfection which our client embraces. These walls also diffuse light flowing in to give a soft and calm atmosphere.
This design gives its user the ability to exist in close proximity with nature, tranquility and impermanence; an ideal escape from the noisy world outside.
